Kaos Rules: A Fable of Sorts

Let’s recap why the citizenry is being trampled by the Inside-the-Moat decision makers. Keep in mind that a barrier lines much of the Southern Border – all the way into the Western Ocean – and not far from the point where the Grand River separates the nation-states.

In December of 2018, the King of Obstacles & Kaos (aka KOOK) told Machiavelli that he would sign a law to keep the government running, no strings attached. Machiavelli’s minions and their opposition voted for the law.

A few crazies screamed about The Wall, The Wall.

KOOK changed his feeble mind and said he would not sign the law.

In stepped the Spineless Wonk. He let the House vote for a law that would keep the government running and provide money for some kind of Wall.

Since the laws were different, and many decision-makers had traveled to their homes outside the Moat for the annual holiday season, the government shut down.

Initially, the citizens weren’t too concerned. They knew that the Unicorn, who was taking control of the House, would pass a law that would restore paychecks (if not order) to the government when the holidays ended.

But KOOK, who had taken credit for the shutdown even before it occurred, wasn’t the King of Kaos for nothing. KOOK claimed that he wouldn’t sign any law that didn’t include money for his precious Wall or Fence or whatever anyone wanted to call it, so long as he could build a physical barrier along some segment of the southern border. Machiavelli said he wouldn’t pass a law that the King wouldn’t sign, which really was just his sneaky way of supporting the chaos.

But now, the citizens are upset. Folks are being forced to work without pay or to stay at home without pay. The KOOK’s advisors (wealthy old men like the KOOK) can’t understand why the workers don’t want to borrow outrageously expensive payday loans for their housing or food for their families. They don’t understand why the citizens are concerned about these unpaid workers, or that they’re food isn’t being inspected, or that they have to wait hours to fly, or that their national parks are being trashed. And, they know, yes they know, the KOOK is throwing a tantrum at their expense.

For some reason, the citizens don’t blame Machiavelli. The power player could have passed the law if he’d wanted to. He probably could have gotten the votes to override the king if KOOK vetoed the law. But, so far, Machiavelli is pretending that he too is spineless. Don’t be fooled. Time to look at what he’s up to while the media and the citizens focus on the KOOK.
